Signs You Need Help
When to Call Us About Your Crown or Bridge
If you notice any of these signs, contact us for a same-day appointment. The sooner the restoration is re-cemented, the better the outcome.
Crown or Bridge Fell Off
Your restoration has completely detached from the tooth. Keep it safe and avoid eating on that side.
Loose or Wobbly Crown
The crown moves when you touch it, bite down or eat. It may make a clicking noise or feel unstable.
Pain Under a Crown
Sensitivity, throbbing or sharp pain beneath an existing crown may indicate decay, a loose fit or nerve involvement.
Cracked or Chipped Crown
Visible damage to the porcelain or material of the crown. May cause a rough edge or sensitivity.
Gap Between Crown & Gum
A visible dark line or gap between the crown margin and the gum, suggesting the crown has shifted or the cement has failed.
Bad Taste or Smell
An unpleasant taste or odour around the crown may indicate bacteria or decay accumulating under the restoration.
Step by Step
The Re-cementation Process
Emergency Assessment
Your dentist examines the crown, bridge and underlying tooth. X-rays may be taken to check for decay, root damage or any issues beneath the restoration.
Cleaning & Preparation
Both the inside of the crown/bridge and the tooth surface are thoroughly cleaned to remove old cement, debris and bacteria.
Fit Check
The restoration is tried back on the tooth to ensure it still fits accurately and the margins are sealed. The bite is checked for comfort.
Re-cementation
Fresh, high-strength dental cement is applied and the crown or bridge is seated firmly into position. Excess cement is carefully removed.
Bite Adjustment
Your bite is tested and adjusted if needed to ensure your teeth meet evenly and the restoration feels comfortable.
Aftercare Advice
Your dentist provides care instructions and advises on preventing future loosening — including avoiding sticky or very hard foods for the first 24 hours.
