The Gold Standard

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of hand-crafted dental ceramic — typically just 0.3–0.5 mm thick — permanently bonded to the front surface of your teeth. Each veneer is individually designed and fabricated in a specialist dental laboratory, then bonded by your cosmetic dentist at a second appointment.

Porcelain is the material of choice for smile makeovers because it replicates the natural translucency, depth and light-reflecting properties of real enamel better than any other dental material. A skilled ceramist hand-layers multiple shades of porcelain to create depth and character — the result is virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Unlike composite veneers, porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant — they will not discolour from tea, coffee, red wine or smoking. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, porcelain veneers typically last 15–25 years. We have patients whose veneers still look perfect after 11+ years.

At Dental Clinic London, porcelain veneers cost from £1,095 per tooth. A personalised treatment plan with confirmed costs is always provided before any work begins. 0% finance is available on selected treatments, subject to status.

Why Porcelain?

The Advantages of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain is the material of choice for cosmetic dentists worldwide — and for good reason.

Last 15–25 Years

Porcelain veneers are the longest-lasting cosmetic restoration available. We have patients whose veneers look perfect after 11+ years with no maintenance beyond normal oral hygiene.

Stain-Resistant

Glazed dental porcelain does not stain from tea, coffee, red wine or smoking. Your smile stays bright year after year without whitening.

Most Natural Appearance

Dental porcelain replicates the translucency, depth and light-reflecting properties of real enamel — virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Ultra-Thin & Conservative

At just 0.3–0.5 mm thick — about a contact lens — porcelain veneers require minimal enamel removal, preserving as much natural tooth as possible.

Custom Lab-Crafted

Each veneer is individually hand-crafted by a specialist ceramist using multiple layers of porcelain to achieve depth, character and a perfect colour match.

Strong & Durable

Once bonded to enamel, porcelain veneers are extremely strong and withstand normal biting forces. They are designed for decades of daily use.

Versatile Results

What Can Porcelain Veneers Fix?

Chipped or Cracked Teeth

Restore damaged teeth to their original shape with a porcelain shell that is stronger and more natural-looking than composite bonding.

Stubborn Discolouration

Cover tetracycline staining, fluorosis, greyish teeth or intrinsic discolouration that does not respond to teeth whitening.

Gaps Between Teeth (Diastemas)

Close gaps without orthodontics. Each veneer is made slightly wider to fill the space symmetrically — results are immediate.

Worn or Short Teeth

Rebuild worn incisal edges and add length to create a youthful, even smile line. Particularly effective for teeth shortened by grinding.

Mildly Crooked Teeth

Create the appearance of straighter teeth without braces — sometimes called 'instant orthodontics' for mild misalignment.

Old, Discoloured Fillings

Replace visible dark amalgam fillings or stained composite with seamless porcelain that blends with your natural teeth.

Your Journey

How Porcelain Veneers Are Placed

From consultation to final polish — here is what happens at each stage.

1

Free Short Consultation (15 min)

Your veneer journey begins with a free 15-minute short consultation. Meet a cosmetic dentist, discuss your goals — colour, shape, alignment — and find out if porcelain veneers are the right option for you. No cost, no obligation. If you decide to proceed, a new patient examination (£30) provides a full clinical assessment and personalised treatment plan with confirmed costs.

2

Smile Design & Shade Selection

Your dentist creates a digital smile design showing how your new smile will look. You choose the ideal shade and shape together — from bright Hollywood white to a natural, subtle improvement. Wax mock-ups or digital previews let you see the result before any work begins.

3

Tooth Preparation

A very thin layer of enamel — typically just 0.3–0.5 mm, about the thickness of a contact lens — is gently removed from the front surface of each tooth under local anaesthetic. This creates space for the veneer to sit flush with your natural teeth. The preparation is painless and extremely conservative.

4

Impressions & Temporary Veneers

Detailed impressions of your prepared teeth are sent to our specialist dental laboratory. Temporary veneers are fitted to protect your teeth and give you a preview of your new smile while the permanent veneers are being hand-crafted — this typically takes 1–2 weeks.

5

Try-In & Bonding

Your porcelain veneers are tried in for fit, colour and shape. Once you and your dentist are completely happy, each veneer is permanently bonded using a strong dental adhesive and light-cured in place. The bond is extremely durable and designed to last decades.

6

Polish, Bite Check & Aftercare

Your new veneers are polished to a natural sheen, your bite is carefully checked and any final micro-adjustments are made. Your dentist provides detailed aftercare instructions. With good oral hygiene, your porcelain veneers will look stunning for 15–25 years.

Long-Lasting Results

Caring for Porcelain Veneers

Follow these simple guidelines to maximise the lifespan of your porcelain veneers.

Brush Twice Daily

Use a soft-bristled or electric toothbrush and non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste. Brush gently along the gum line where the veneer meets the natural tooth to keep margins clean and plaque-free.

Floss Daily

Floss around each veneer to remove plaque from between teeth. This prevents decay at the veneer margins and keeps gums healthy. Interdental brushes and water flossers also work well.

Avoid Biting Hard Objects

Do not use your veneered teeth to bite ice, pen caps, fingernails or hard sweets. While porcelain is strong once bonded, it can chip under excessive lateral force — just like natural enamel.

Wear a Night Guard if You Grind

Teeth grinding (bruxism) is the most common cause of premature veneer failure. A custom-made night guard (Michigan splint) protects your porcelain while you sleep. Discuss this at your consultation.

6-Monthly Hygiene Appointments

Professional cleaning every 6 months keeps the gum tissue around your veneers healthy and removes any calculus build-up. Our hygienists use instruments appropriate for porcelain surfaces.

Avoid Whitening on Porcelain

Porcelain does not respond to bleaching agents — it is already stain-resistant. If you want to brighten your natural teeth, whiten them before the veneers are made so the shade can be matched to your new, brighter colour.
