What Are Composite Veneers?
Composite veneers are thin layers of tooth-coloured composite resin applied and sculpted directly onto the front surface of your teeth by your cosmetic dentist. Unlike porcelain veneers — which are made in a laboratory — composite veneers are built up layer by layer on the tooth, shaped by hand and light-cured in place. The entire procedure is completed in a single appointment.
Composite veneers can correct a wide range of cosmetic concerns: chipped teeth, gaps, discolouration, worn edges, uneven teeth and mildly crooked teeth. They are one of the most conservative cosmetic treatments available because they typically require minimal or no tooth preparation — meaning your natural tooth is preserved almost entirely.
At Dental Clinic London, composite veneers cost from £595 per tooth. They are an excellent option for patients who want a beautiful cosmetic improvement at a more affordable price point than porcelain, or for those who prefer a reversible, minimally invasive approach. With good oral hygiene, composite veneers last 5–10 years and can be easily repaired or refreshed.

Why Composite?
The Advantages of Composite Veneers
Composite veneers offer unique advantages that make them the ideal choice for many patients.
Completed in One Visit
Walk in with your existing smile, walk out with a new one — all in a single appointment. No temporaries, no laboratory wait, no second visit.
More Affordable
At from £595 per tooth, composite veneers are significantly more affordable than porcelain (from £1,095). An excellent option for patients on a budget who want a beautiful cosmetic improvement.
Minimal or No Tooth Preparation
In most cases, composite veneers require no drilling or enamel removal at all. The composite is applied directly to the natural tooth — making it one of the most conservative cosmetic treatments.
Easily Repaired
If a composite veneer chips or wears, it can be quickly and affordably repaired chair-side by adding fresh composite. No need to replace the entire veneer.
Reversible (in Most Cases)
Because little or no tooth structure is removed, composite veneers can be removed in the future if you decide to upgrade to porcelain or simply return to your natural teeth.
Natural-Looking Results
When sculpted by an experienced cosmetic dentist, composite veneers produce beautiful, natural-looking results. Your dentist hand-sculpts each veneer to match the colour, shape and texture of your natural teeth.
Making the Right Choice
Composite vs Porcelain Veneers
Not sure which type is right for you? Here is a side-by-side comparison.
| Feature | Composite | Porcelain |
|---|---|---|
| Appointments | 1 (same day) | 2 (1–2 weeks apart) |
| Lifespan | 5–10 years | 15–25 years |
| Stain Resistance | Can stain over time | Excellent — won't stain |
| Tooth Preparation | Minimal or none | 0.3–0.5 mm removal |
| Repairability | Easy — patched chair-side | Difficult — usually replaced |
| Reversibility | Usually reversible | Not reversible |
| Natural Appearance | Very good | Excellent — translucent |
| Cost Per Tooth | From £595 | From £1,095 |
Both types produce beautiful results. Your dentist will recommend the best option based on your goals, budget and clinical situation.
Versatile Results
What Can Composite Veneers Fix?
Chipped or Cracked Teeth
Repair chips and minor cracks instantly. Composite is sculpted to restore the original shape — the repair blends seamlessly with your natural tooth.
Gaps Between Teeth
Close gaps (diastemas) between teeth without orthodontics. Composite is added to either side of the gap for a symmetrical, natural result.
Discoloured Teeth
Cover staining that does not respond to whitening — including tetracycline stains and intrinsic discolouration — with a uniform, natural shade.
Worn or Uneven Edges
Rebuild worn incisal edges and smooth uneven tooth tips to create a balanced, youthful smile line.
Mildly Crooked Teeth
Create the appearance of straighter teeth without braces. Composite is strategically shaped to improve alignment visually.
Small or Peg-Shaped Teeth
Build up undersized or peg-shaped lateral incisors to proportionate dimensions that balance your smile.
Your Journey
How Composite Veneers Are Placed
From consultation to final polish — everything is completed in a single visit.
Free Short Consultation (15 min)
Your composite veneer journey begins with a free 15-minute short consultation. Meet a cosmetic dentist, discuss your goals — colour, shape, alignment — and find out if composite veneers are the right option. No cost, no obligation. If you decide to proceed, a new patient examination (£30) provides a full clinical assessment and treatment plan with confirmed costs.
Shade Selection & Mock-Up
Your dentist selects the ideal composite shade using a shade guide, matching your natural teeth or a brighter shade if you prefer. A small amount of composite may be placed and shaped without bonding to give you a preview of the final result before committing.
Minimal Tooth Preparation
In many cases, composite veneers require no tooth preparation at all — the composite is applied directly to the natural enamel. If preparation is needed, it is extremely conservative — a light roughening of the surface to help the composite bond securely.
Layering & Sculpting
Your dentist applies tooth-coloured composite resin in thin layers directly onto the tooth surface. Each layer is carefully sculpted by hand to build the ideal shape, contour and translucency. The composite is light-cured (hardened) layer by layer using a special UV light.
Shaping & Contouring
Once the composite is fully built up, your dentist uses fine finishing instruments to refine the shape, smooth the edges and create natural-looking surface texture. The bite is checked and any adjustments are made.
Polish & Final Check
The veneers are polished to a high sheen that mimics the lustre of natural enamel. Your dentist does a final check of the colour, shape and bite. You leave with your new smile the same day — no temporaries, no second appointment, no waiting.

Maintaining Your Smile
Caring for Composite Veneers
Follow these simple guidelines to keep your composite veneers looking their best for as long as possible.
Brush Twice Daily
Use a soft-bristled or electric toothbrush with non-abrasive toothpaste. Brush gently along the gum line where the composite meets the natural tooth to keep margins clean.
Floss Daily
Floss around each veneer to remove plaque from between teeth. This prevents decay at the margins and keeps gums healthy. Interdental brushes work well too.
Avoid Hard Biting
Do not bite ice, pen caps, fingernails or hard sweets directly with veneered teeth. Composite is strong but can chip under excessive force — the same advice applies to natural teeth.
Limit Staining Foods & Drinks
Composite can stain over time from tea, coffee, red wine and smoking. Rinsing with water after consuming these helps. Regular polishing at hygiene appointments restores the sheen.
Regular Polishing
At your 6-monthly hygiene appointment, your hygienist can polish your composite veneers to refresh their lustre and smooth out any micro-roughness that attracts staining.
Night Guard if You Grind
Teeth grinding (bruxism) can wear composite veneers prematurely. A custom night guard protects your veneers while you sleep — discuss this with your dentist at your consultation.
