Dental Emergencies
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation involving your teeth, gums or jaw that requires immediate attention — whether to relieve severe pain, stop bleeding, save a tooth or treat an infection.
At Dental Clinic London, we offer same-day emergency dental appointments at our South Kensington clinic on Old Brompton Road. We're open 7 days a week, including late evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays — so you can reach us when you need us most.
Our City of London clinic at Ave Maria Lane (opening May 2026) will also provide emergency care, with extended hours Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm.
Broken or Chipped Tooth
Cracked, fractured or chipped teeth from trauma, biting or an accident.
Severe Toothache
Intense, persistent pain that may indicate infection, decay or an abscess.
Knocked-Out Tooth
A tooth completely dislodged — time-critical. Call us within 30 minutes.
Lost Filling or Crown
A filling or crown has fallen out, leaving the tooth exposed and sensitive.
Dental Abscess
Swelling, pus or a painful lump on the gum — may require urgent drainage.
Bleeding or Swelling
Uncontrolled bleeding from the gums, mouth or after extraction.
Out-of-hours Dentist
Urgent dental care outside regular hours — evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Private Emergency Dentist
Prompt private dental care for emergencies — same-day appointments available.
Walk-in Dentist
Same-day dental care without a prior appointment — subject to availability.
Weekend Emergency Dentist
Urgent dental care on Saturdays and Sundays when most practices are closed.
First Aid Guide
What to Do Right Now
Follow these steps while you wait for your emergency appointment. Then call us on 020 7183 0527.
- 1Pick up the tooth by the crown (white part) — never touch the root.
- 2If dirty, rinse gently with milk or saline. Do not scrub or use water.
- 3Try to place the tooth back in the socket and bite down gently on a clean cloth.
- 4If you cannot reinsert it, place it in a cup of milk or hold it inside your cheek.
- 5Call us immediately — ideally within 30 minutes for the best chance of saving the tooth.
